Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Denver Broncos

Thursday Night Football

October 17th, 2019

Before I get into this game and who I think will win or lose, I must come out with my bias. I have been an embarrassingly fanatic of the Kansas City Chiefs since I was about 4 years old. I don’t really know why I would write about this, except for the fact that it makes me feel good to put my thoughts down on paper. As you can imagine by now, my football posts will probably never be negative towards my team. I have been so horrible of a fan that a Chiefs win adversely affects my mood, relationships, and productivity. On the other side of that is a Chiefs loss, so try to imagine how angry, sad, and less productive I am after that happens. I am not here to tell you who will win the game, because I believe the Chiefs will win every game they play (I know, its bad).

How Kansas City Wins the Game?

The energy in Denver will be absolutely electric tonight by the time my Chiefs even enter the stadium. I know the Broncos very well as a life-long Chiefs fan and have every confidence they will come to play tonight. With that being said, we all know how the Chiefs win tonight. They find a way to limit the number of possessions Denver has. Obviously, that means stopping the run and getting to the QB, which they haven’t been even ok at in the past 3 years. The Chiefs will not stop the run tonight because Denver has the best duel-threat RBs in the NFL. Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman have 973 yards combined in only 6 games! The Chiefs are giving up 5.2 yards a carry and 188 yards, per game. However, the Chiefs won’t need to stop the run entirely to win this game tonight.

Patrick Mahomes

As a Chiefs fan it almost doesn’t feel real that Kansas City got the best QB to come out of the draft since Aaron Rodgers. Patrick Mahomes (MVPatrick in my home) hasn’t been right since he first hurt his ankle in the season-opener. As big of a deal as the sports world has made of it, it’s not as impactful as they’re making you believe. The issue with the Chiefs offense is their inability to run the ball consistently and the insane amount of penalties they have almost every drive. It’s not Patrick Mahomes’s ankle that giving them so many problems. The confidence that I have in the Chiefs is only beaten by the confidence Patrick Mahomes has on the field. There has been a big deal made about 1 touchdown throw in 3 games, but its more about the way defenses are playing him rather than the way he is playing. With most defenses playing man-to-man with two deep safeties, the Chiefs need to run the ball tonight as often as they can. In fact, I encourage the Chiefs to run the ball every down no matter what the first two drives to make a point that they will run the ball. Otherwise, the Denver defense will be able to pin their ears back and go after our MVP. Patrick (not Pat, that’s his dad) Mahomes will do enough tonight to win because he will get help from his running game tonight. I still believe he’ll throw for 350 yards with 2 tds, but the Chiefs will run the ball more tonight because they have to if they want to win.

Andy Reid

The head ball coach is ready to adapt and overcome the style of defenses he’s been facing. He will have at least 5 plays tonight that blows everyone’s mind when they analyze them tomorrow. The Chiefs will win tonight because they have Patrick Mahomes, but also the best play-caller in the NFL. I know every sports blogger and analyst says the same thing, but Andy Reid has a special mind in how he’s able to manipulate defenses and coverage’s. Denver will sack Mahomes tonight, but their overall aggression on defense will cost them tonight

Frank Clark

Frank Clark was one of two major deals the Chiefs pulled off this year and frankly, he’s not done much to deserve that contract. I would never write anything about how much another man gets paid to do his job, so I am happy he made his money. However, he needs to perform much better than he has so far in the 6 games if the Chiefs are going to win tonight. I don’t think he’s played bad and you have to understand he faces double teams every play and that wears defenders down quicker. Regardless, I think tonight is the breakout game for Frank Clark in a Kansas City uniform.

How Denver Wins the Game?

As hard as this is to write for me, the Denver Broncos have a legitimate shot to win this game tonight. There is not a more dangerous due in the backfield right than what Denver has. If they are able to control the clock and keep our MVP off the field, they will win. Chiefs are giving up 40% of all 3rd down conversion attempts and 80% of 4th down attempts so far this season. I’ve never really thought Joe Flacco was great, but I do think he’s good for a few nice throws late in the game. With other teams converting on almost half of their chances, taking time away from the Chiefs offense is not a hard thing to do. A key turnover from a strip sack or tipped pass can turn this game as well, but only if Denver control the clock on defense. Make no mistake, if the Chief get into a shootout, they’ll win by 10. Denver wins this game by running the ball and using their play action on 3rd down. The Chiefs pretty much fall for play action anytime it’s run against them. Denver has caught the Chiefs on a short week and the Chiefs are beat the hell up on both lines, which bodes well for Denver. If Denver is going to beat KC this year, it will be tonight. Sometimes, like last week, you catch a team at the right time and they’re vulnerable.

My Pick for the game

Obviously, I’m going with the Chiefs and I agree with Vegas on the 3 point spread. Try not to over think this game by over analyzing the amount of injuries and issues with the Chiefs defense. Patrick Mahomes will throw at least 2 tds tonight and carry the Chiefs back to the Holy Land with a long weekend to get that ankle right. In the end of the day, most games come down to who has the better QB. In no world would you ever suggest Joe Flacco is on the level as our MVP. For that reason, the Chiefs win tonight. Go Chiefs!
